A gutsy Peterborough United held Coca-Cola League One leaders Luton Town 2-2 at London Road in a thoroughly entertaining encounter with Calum Willock bagging a brace in a Bank Holiday clash to remember.

After a one-minute silence for those who lost their lives in the Tsunami in the Indian Ocean, the game at London Road got underway with Posh operating a 4-4-2 system with Sean St. Ledger at right back and Craig Ireland taking the position of left-back.

Welshman Andy Legg lashed an ambitious left-foot volley wide of the target on five minutes as the home side made a decent start. A good piece of skill from Willock on 10 minutes created a chance for Farrell, but his tame floating effort was easily saved by Beresford.

Former Posh target Underwood tested Tyler with a free-kick moments later, but the Posh shot-stopper was not severely put under any pressure. Barry Fry's men were looking quite comfortable against the league leaders with the crowd getting behind the Posh side as they battled well for the second ball in the midfield areas.

Posh had appeals for a spot-kick turned down when Purser went down inside the box on 32 minutes but the referee waved play on. Ireland then headed over the top following a St. Ledger cross as the home side became more and more dominant in the winter sunshine.

Fry's men were playing excellently and on 34 minutes a quick throw out from Tyler found the rampaging Farrell, whose dash to the other end concluded with a cross to Willock who headed well wide of the target.

Some good work from Purser saw him thread the ball through the legs of Foley on 41 minutes, but he took a heavy touch before crossing and the chance was snuffed out by Davies, who then received treatment from the physiotherapist.

On the stroke of half-time, Newton was denied by Beresford before the referee brought an end to the first half.

Posh were inches away from breaking the deadlock on 47 minutes as a St. Ledger free-kick was knocked down by Ireland to Willock and his turn fierce shot flew just over the crossbar. So disappointed was Hatters manager Mike Newell with his side that he made two changes less than 10 minutes after the interval with Steve Robinson and Rowan Vine introduced.

Scotsman Thomson volleyed wide moments later after Plummer did well to win the aerial challenge at the back post. However, as the luck is currently going for Posh, Luton then went down the other end and scored as NICHOLLS floated a superb free-kick around the wall and into the corner of the net (pictured above) after Plummer was adjudged to have handled.

Purser saw a skidding effort easily stopped by Beresford on 57 minutes, but it was the visitors who were now firmly in charge, boosted by the stunning opening goal of the game by Nicholls. Substitute Robinson volleyed well wide of the target just after the hour mark.

Branston had a good headed opportunity on 66 minutes as a Legg throw was flicked into the defenders path by Ireland. Willock then wasted a good chance on 69 minutes as a deep cross found the former Fulham front man, but he fired well over the top on the half volley.

Posh got the equaliser they deserved on 73 minutes as a fantastic Logan flick found WILLOCK (pictured above) and he powered a header past Beresford and into the back of the net to silence the travelling support of over 3,000 inside London Road.

Ireland hooked a volley well wide from a Thomson free-kick after a great piece of individual skill from Willock ended with Perrett tugging him back for a foul. Posh were 2-1 up on 82 minutes as a long throw from Legg was turned in at the near post by WILLOCK (pictured above) for his second goal of the afternoon.

Luton were level on 85 minutes as with Legg down injured and Newton struggling too, the ball was allowed to be kept in by Vine and Underwood's cross to the far post was powerfully headed past Tyler by HOWARD.

In the dying moments, Underwood saw a low effort smothered by Tyler in a frantic finale that included three minutes of stoppage time.
