Midfielder Charlie Lee celebrated his 21st birthday in fine style after scoring the third goal in Peterborough United's comfortable victory over Championship side Colchester United at Layer Road on Saturday.

Lee headed home a Chris Whelpdale corner for his third goal in four games and it capped a memorable day for the former Tottenham Hotspur man. On one of his significant birthday's, Lee was the driving force from midfield, particularly in the second half as Posh made it into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Lee, who was sporting a new shaven look, told theposh.com: 'It was a great birthday for me and an ideal way to celebrate. I really enjoyed it, not only my goal but the whole performance. It is always nice to mix it with teams from a higher division and I thought we deserved the victory.

'I thought our football was good and it was frustrating to come in at half-time with the scores level because we created numerous chances whereas they didn't really cause us too many problems. We knew we had to start the second half quickly and we did and got the important second goal.

'You have to withstand pressure from a team like Colchester and there was a little spell where they gave it a go and the third goal was vital and thankfully it came for us. We deserved the win and our spot in the fourth round draw.

'For me personally, it was nice to catch up with a few old mates from Tottenham like Mark Yeates and Johnnie Jackson and I was at White Hart Lane when Teddy Sheringham was there and it was great to put one over on them,' Lee said.

Striker Aaron Mclean notched his 20th goal of the season and came close to adding one or two more with the top scorer hitting the post and seeing two efforts well saved by Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken.

'It is great to get to 20 goals and that was my initial target at the start of the season, so to reach it in January is a good achievement and now I want to push on and see how close I can get to 30 goals. I could have had more than one against Colchester but the goalkeeper played well for them.

'It is great to be in the fourth round draw and everyone now looks forward to seeing who we get on Monday. Hopefully we will get a decent side, but we fancy ourselves of doing well in the competition,' Mclean added.
