Keates Delighted With Vital Win
Dean Keates popped up with another vital goal as Peterborough United continued to keep pace with league leaders Milton Keynes Dons following a narrow 1-0 success over Chester City on Easter Monday.
Keates headed home a Scott Rendell assist on 71 minutes to finally break the deadlock after a dominant Posh performance which featured several missed chances including a close-range shot that went wide by top scorer Aaron Mclean inside the opening two minutes.
'If Aaron's chance had gone in I am sure it would have been a comfortable afternoon for us, but the longer it went on without the goal, the more nervy the crowd got, but I always thought we would score and I am delighted I was able to score it.
'I just sensed their might be a mix-up between the goalkeeper and their defender and so it proved, I was just lucky enough to get there first and direct it past the goalkeeper. We thoroughly deserved the win and it keeps us on Milton Keynes Dons coattails.
'Narrow wins are just as important as big victories and we had a few of them at Walsall last season. It is all about picking up three points and we are now unbeaten in 15 matches, a great time of the season to put a run together.
'It is now a very big game next week against Lincoln City, one of my old clubs and they will be fighting for their lives because it is a derby game and I am sure it will be a big atmosphere at London Road,' Keates told theposh.com.
