Day Thrilled To Be Part Of Success
Jamie Day has seen many ups and downs in his career with Peterborough United but automatic promotion to Coca-Cola League One has been singled out as the 'best moment of his career'.
The highly-rated left-back has been instrumental to the club's success with a string of impressive displays which has helped Darren Ferguson's men finish runners-up to Milton Keynes Dons in League Two.
'I am one of the longest-serving players at the club and I have seen many ups and downs, but this season has been by far the biggest up I have been involved in. It has been fantastic this year and it has been a privilege to be a part of it.
'This season has been one to remember. Our main aim at the start of the season was to secure promotion and that has been achieved. For me personally, to only miss a couple of league games all season was pleasing for me and it was nice to get through the campaign without picking up any serious injuries.
'There have been many highlights this season. Obviously there have been games where I have played well and they have been pleasing, but I think the atmosphere generated at the Milton Keynes Dons away game was first class and the supporters have been absolutely magnificent. I think the boys deserved to win that game.
'It is important that we get the rest now over the summer and come back fresh for the new campaign. It has been a long hard season and we have played a lot of games. We are still young though and once we have re-charged the batteries we will come back and give League One a good go. I believe we will be ready and I think we can challenge for honours,' Day told theposh.com.
At the start of the campaign, many supporters expected Day to be a fixture on the left-hand side of midfield, but the talented youngster has slotted in at left-back and performed admirably, making the position his own for the majority of the season.
'I got a good run in the team and it was great to be a part of such a successful season. I have been happy with my form, I don't think I had a match where I really struggled. I have had to adapt to a new position as left-back was not a position I had played in very often.
'The manager and Kevin Russell worked on playing there with me and they seemed happy for me to perform in that role and I knew it was a chance for me to play week in, week out.
'I have really enjoyed working closely with George Boyd down the left-hand side. George likes to drift in and that allows me to get to the by-line and get crosses in so it works really well for me. George has been excellent this season and to score over 15 goals from wide-left is very impressive,' Day concluded.
