Newton Eyes Regular Starting Berth
Peterborough United have the infrastructure and playing squad to be competing in the Championship within two years according to long-serving full-back Adam Newton.
The former West Ham United youngster has been impressed with how the young players have gelled this season and believes they can only get better. Newton is hoping he can have an influential campaign in League One and hold down a regular spot in the starting line-up.
'This season has brought so many positives and in terms of ability, this is the best team I have played in at Peterborough by far. I would have liked to play a lot more than I have, but the team have been performing well, so I can't complain too much.
'I know this team can keep improving and progressing and as long as nobody gets too comfortable, I can see the team making the Championship within two years and that would be a remarkable achievement. For me personally, I want to secure a regular starting place as I expect competition to be stronger next year,' Newton said.
The scenes at Hereford United when Posh clinched automatic promotion to League One were memories that will stick with the players for a long time and in a season of many positives, Newton believes the feeling of that victory at Edgar Street will be repeated many times in the future.
'The 1-0 win at Hereford and the celebrations that followed were brilliant and everyone really enjoyed themselves. It was a great feeling and I am sure that feeling will be repeated because the potential here at Peterborough is massive,' Newton told theposh.com.
