Posh 3-0 Rochdale

Josh Low, Aaron Mclean and George Boyd celebrate

Posh made a strong start to the new campaign by comfortably beating Rochdale at London Road. Boss Darren Ferguson opted for Shwan Jalal in goal instead of loyal servant Mark Tyler, which was a surprise to many supporters. It took less than 10 minutes for Posh to open the account with Josh Low firing the opener and it was two just before half time when Aaron Mclean scored his first goal of the season with a toe poke after good work from Craig Morgan. In the second half Posh went searching for a third and hit the woodwork twice inside 60 seconds. The game was made safe when substitute Danny Crow popped up at the back post to score the third. Crow was later taken off the transfer list after impressing gaffer Darren Ferguson.

Posh 2-3 Chesterfield United

Shwan Jalal saves a penalty kick against Chesterfield
After the defeat at Rotherham Posh were desperate to make amends in front of the home support against another recently relegated side in Chesterfield. The Spireites made the better start but after some missed chances it was Posh who broke the deadlock with Aaron Mclean powerfully heading past keeper Roche. Chesterfield had a golden opportunity to level the scores when Jack Lester was brought down by Chris Westwood inside the area, and Lester stepped up to take the spot kick himself but was denied by a super save from Jalal. However, Posh failed to clear and the ball found its way back to Lester who tucked in the equaliser. Posh got the noses back in front through new signing Charlie Lee which concluded an entertaining first half. Chesterfield levelled again on the hour mark through Jamie Lowry and Derek Niven made it 3-2 to Chesterfield moments later. Posh pressed for the final five minutes but couldn't scrape an equaliser to the disbelief of Darren Ferguson and the Posh fans.
