'Well it's been another good week at London Road following victories against Staines and Notts County. Obviously confidence is sky high amongst the players and long may it continue. Much has been said about our attacking flair and rightly so but the bedrock of any successful side is the ability to defend and keep clean sheets.
This is something we have managed to achieve in the last three matches and although you defend as a team, special praise must go to the back four, in particular Craig Morgan and Chris Westwood. In my opinion (which might be slightly biased) they are up there with the best defensive partnerships in the league.
I was lucky enough to play with Chris Westwood at Hartlepool for three seasons and knew what a good defender he was. His signing has been ideal for us, we have quite a young side but with Chris and Micah Hyde in the team we have bags of experience and leadership which I feel will be essential in the development of some of the younger players.
Most of the stuff that goes on at the club is well known but some things stay under the radar. Take the last two away games we had against Staines and Notts County for example, normally only sixteen or seventeen players travel to the game but for these games the whole squad traveled, even the injured players.
It might not seem like much but in my opinion this emphasises the feeling of togetherness we have in the squad. From a personal point of view I know how hard it can be not to be involved in the 16 but gestures like this help to keep everybody involved and given the strength and size of the squad we have, a lot of good players may find themselves in this situation during the course of the season.
Staying on this subject, I have to pay tribute to the players currently not getting regular first team action. I have been at some clubs where there is a lot of bitterness when players are not involved but I can genuinely say this is not the case at our club, we have a dedicated squad of players all pulling in the same direction to achieve our goal of promotion.'
