Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony has urged the public of Peterborough to give up their Christmas shopping in favour of watching the biggest Football League match to be staged at London Road for almost a decade during an interview with the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.

MacAnthony said: 'I have been thrilled with the rock solid support thus far at home and away. Our crowds will improve this season in a big way and it won't happen overnight, but it is amazing to see the buzz among our supporters who are doing their best to encourage friends, colleagues and family to come to London Road.

'This atmosphere within the Peterborough community will only get better with the results our manager and our players are producing week in and week out. I still firmly believe the best is yet to come from our incredible squad and their never-say-die attitude! For those who have yet to come to London Road and watch us, it's a new era, a new Posh and new football at London Road - come and see what you are missing.

'Saturday could not be scripted any better. It is first versus second, the two favourites for automatic promotion pitted against each other and not only that it's two ex-Man United team-mates up against each other as Darren Ferguson faces Paul Ince.

'This is a battle of proper football to find out who really is the best team in League Two. It's also the biggest game in mine and Darren's managerial career and if we can't pull in over 8,000 supporters for this game I will be gutted. The team are in great form with four wins in a row and we want to carry on and narrow the gap at the top.'
